They also look at the intelligence cycle, including describing the consumers of intelligence and targets, as well as resources and reputation. Each chapter is written by an expert with detailed knowledge of the countries' intelligence agencies. The authors explore the factors that shape how intelligence services in Africa are structured and operate as well as how the services' role in security and government. For the first time, African intelligence and security is front-and-center in a handbook that examines the issues that influence intelligence operations and collection, and how the intelligence services shape African governments and society.



About the Author

Ryan Shaffer is a consultant who specializes in extremism and security services. He is the author of 200 articles, reviews and book chapters in academic and popular publications. Shaffer has written for various international magazines including Reader's Digest and Homeland Security Today. His recent academic articles include 'Following in Footsteps: The History of Kenya's Post-Colonial Intelligence Services,' Studies in Intelligence (2019) and 'Indian Spies inside Pakistan: South Asian Human Intelligence Across Borders,' Intelligence and National Security (2019). He earned his PhD from Stony Brook University in New York and published, The Transformation of Extremism (Palgrave Macmillan).

Found a hard to get book…
