Reviews
'Few of those following current developments in European defence integration know much about the history of this highly sensitive issue over the past 50 years, and the recurring themes each time proposals have been advanced. Simon Duke's new study provides the context today's policy-makers and students need, linking negotiations among European governments with the transatlantic dimension, and considering how far the end of the cold war has transformed the context within which the French, German, British and other leading governments define the questions at stake. This will be on my bookshelf and booklist for years to come.' - William Wallace, Professor of International Relations, London School of Economics and Political Science '...a sound investment for any serious student of contemporary European security issues or European integration more generally...the most sober, balanced, and lucidly written studies of the past, present condition, and future prospects of the Atlantic Alliance...This volume is highly recommended' - Carl Hodge, Journal of European Security
