Description
A tender Christmas story with charming artwork by Emily Sutton, illustrator of Tiny.
A poignant, exquisitely illustrated Christmas story, with words by Delia Huddy and pictures by rising star Emily Sutton. When the ugly little fir tree is taken to the city, no one wants to buy him; they prefer the big tall trees. But a homeless boy asks the shopkeeper if he can take the tree, and down by the river in a cardboard box, decorated with a few candles, the tree finds itself at the centre of a magical Christmas Eve it will never forget. A Christmas tale with a classic feel but a modern theme at its heart.
About the Author
Delia Huddy grew up surrounded by books. After taking a degree in English at King's College London, she began to work in publishing, first at Constable & Co, then Hamish Hamilton, and then with close friend Julia MacRae at Julia MacRae Books. Latterly she became Editorial Director at Random House Children's Books. Alongside her distinguished career in publishing, Delia wrote for children and young people - novels, picture books and young fiction - over 30 titles in all. At the end of her life, in 2005, Delia was working on the text for The Christmas Eve Tree.
Emily Sutton graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in illustration. As well as illustrating picture books, she paints, sculpts and designs prints. Her first book with Walker, TINY: The Invisible World of Microbes, written by Nicola Davies, began an exciting new strand of very young non fiction. Emily lives in York.
