About the Author
Marvyn Harrison is a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Consultant and the founder of Dope Black Dads, a support group and podcast that works to challenge outdated stereotypes about Black fatherhood and cultivating a progressive, inclusive community of parents. Marvyn previously has had a long career in music and advertising, spending over a decade in the industry working with a variety of clients, from artists such as Ed Sheeran and Samsung to Manchester City Football Club.
He started Dope Black Dads on Father's Day 2018, when it was made up of him and his friends sharing their experiences and challenges as Black fathers in a WhatsApp and Facebook group. Today, the organization has reached tens of thousands of people across the UK, US and South Africa, won awards, and created a global collective of mums, dads, queer, disabled, men and women community groups.
Marvyn lives in London and has two children, Blake and Ocean, who star in his picture books I Love Me! and The Best Me!, and with whom he does confidence-boosting affirmations everyday.
Rochelle Falconer was born in Jamaica but grew up in Birmingham, the oldest of six kids, raised by her single mum. As a teenager her head was always in a book. She loved to write - and at school the art department was where she felt most at home. Rochelle studied graphic design - and has worked for various design agencies as well as the gaming industry. It wasn't until she took a break to raise a family, that she rediscovered picture books.
Combining her early passion for writing and her love of drawing, Rochelle now spends her time creating characters she would love to see represented in picture books, and dreaming up their stories.
