Description

The Autism Detective was written to support early conversations about autism and neurodiversity. Through a positive lens it invites the reader to be a detective and follow super sleuths Kit and Scully on their latest mission. It is for children pre- and post- autism diagnosis, their siblings, parents, wider family, friends and teachers to explore and investigate what autism means to them. The interactive style and variety of voices make it great as a group reader for peer training in primary classrooms. The story helps spark discussion with references to the strengths and challenges that some autistic people may experience, whilst highlighting things that all children have in common, such as the need for love, friendship, acceptance and respect.

Interactive children's book that enlists you to join detectives in their autism investigation

Reviews
What a brilliant book! I love it for so many reasons - it's clever, it's funny, it's thought provoking and extremely informative, plus the illustrations are excellent! Elaine Brownless and Mai-Ann Burns have managed to capture the essence of autism and reveal the positives of diversity whilst gently revealing the challenges that those on the autism spectrum deal with on a day-to-day basis. Highly recommended. -- Kathy Hoopmann, author of All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome and All Bird Have Anxiety

Many people are clueless when it comes to understanding Autism. Aided by two aspiring detectives - Kit & Scully and a super smart cat, called Minnie, this book invites us to don our deerstalkers and set off on a journey of discovery. Through its positive lens, we will see the commonalities, challenges and unique strengths of those with autism and celebrate its delightful diversity.
A powerful teaching tool - full of child-friendly activities and information.

-- K. I. Al-Ghani, University Lecturer in Autism, Autism trainer and international author of books on ASD
With an early understanding of autism, the next generation of children will be lucky enough to appreciate the value of inclusion and the importance of diversity. This fully illustrated book effortlessly covers a lot of important ground using a fun, interactive format, as well as answering real questions about autism in an easy-to-read style. I'd recommend this book as a valuable tool for peer training. -- Debby Elley, author of 15 Things They Forgot to Tell You About Autism and co-author of The Ice Cream Sundae Guide to Autism.
Elaine has used her two hats - being a mum of an autistic child and a specialist ASD teacher - wonderfully, to create this original and fun book for children to learn about neurodiversity and Autism, while they embark on a mystery-solving detective adventure! -- Dr Gloria Dura-Vila, NHS and Private Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, author of My Autism Book, The Amazing Autistic Brain and Me and my PDA.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
