Rick once said he could write a series of books in answer to the all-too-familiar question 'Where are you from?' This isn't that book, but it is an attempt, by Rick, to come to terms with the question itself. Tales from the Other Box looks to blend the traditions of minstrel, bard and griot, to paint itself all at once the voice of old soul elder, trickster motif, and the teller of the tale. Concerned with the liminal regions of ethnicity and identity, this collection dances defiantly along the borders existing within individuals, families and wider society, in order to navigate the spaces between received notions of belonging and what it means to be truly at home.

About the Author
As Rick was born and raised in south London through the 1980s and 1990s he witnessed firsthand the effects of both increasing multiculturalism and gentrification on his childhood streets. This tension and dynamism informs Rick's writing allowing it to explore both social and personal change and how these forces interact to form self-image. A regular performer on the London poetry scene since 2015, Rick's love of poetry in all its forms comes with a wide range of influences and gives him a truly liminal voice. Rick was the Farrago UK Slam Silver Medallist (2019), a Highly Commended Semi-Finalist BBC Edinburgh Fringe Slam (2018) and the Hammer & Tongue Hackney 2018/2019 Winner.
