Description

Taking Flight is a story about love, loss and dealing with death. Luke goes to see his grandpa every day after school. He likes it there, and especially enjoys helping with Grandpa's pigeons. But Grandpa gets sick and muddled and needs more than Luke's help. When he goes into hospital, events take a turn for the worse and suddenly Luke has to grow up very fast...

Julia Green is becoming increasingly well known as someone who writes about big issues in a sensitive, intelligent way. Blue Moon and Baby Blue concern teenage pregnancy and motherhood. Her latest title, Hunter's Heart, was picked as a 'Top Title' in the Bookseller roundup of teenage reads. Part of the specially-commissioned White Wolves fiction range for 7-11 year olds, written in consultation with the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education. Each year group will have three stand-alone titles and accompanying Teachers' Guides to support guided reading lessons in the classroom. Ties in with themes demanded by the NLS for Year 4: stories which raise issues. The series is already garnering praise in the press: 'It's a pleasure to read commissioned work which fulfils its brief so imaginatively' (Books for Keeps).

About the Author
Julia Green has written several books for teenagers, published by Penguin. She teaches creative writing to adults and children, and also works as a home tutor to children who have been excluded from school. She has two children.

Reviews
"A touching story, detailing the changing relationship between a boy and his grandfather, ecompassing loss and bereavement. This ties in nicely with the National Literacy Scheme's Year 4 target theme of stories which raise issues." Publishing News (2nd June 2006)

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
