About the Author
Matthew Palmer is a renowned demonstrator of watercolour painting, and his classes are particularly popular with beginners. He has been painting professionally for over twenty years and specializes in landscapes, still life and animals. He has his own studio at his home in Derbyshire, UK and teaches hundreds of people each week, as well as running watercolour workshops and holidays. As a fan of Matthew Palmer, I already have his first book, "Watercolour for the Absolute Beginner", so I was absolutely delighted to receive this new book. I spend a good deal of time in the Lake District, so this book was just perfect for me as it combined my joy of painting with the type of scenery I love. Although this book is aimed at the beginner, I also think it works well for the more experienced artist. Matthew has such a laid back, easy going style, he can make anyone believe in themselves, and find that inner artist. Using just three colours and three brushes, we are guided through a variety of projects (9 in all) from snow capped mountains to sunsets and lush green meadows. Every project is clearly explained and well illustrated. It is not just mountains, as Matthew gives tips along the way for painting trees, skies, reflections, rocks, buildings and even figures. The pages are dotted with tips, and jargon busters perfect for beginners. To summarise, this book is well thought out and simple to follow. It proves one can achieve great results without spending a fortune on lots of equipment. I think it would appeal to beginners and more experienced artists, and would highly recommend it.
