Description
Superduets Book 1 provides a wonderful new repertoire of original and entertaining duets for beginner cellists. It can be started as soon as pupils have mastered basic playing technique. Encouraging rhythmic confidence and listening skills, and exploring a wide range of techniques, sound effects and movements, Mary Cohen's Superduets are tailor-made for players at the very earliest stages of learning. These delightful pieces serve as a unique introduction to the joys of social music-making and help pupils to develop the invaluable skills required for ensemble playing at an early stage. The cello books are also compatible with the violin books, opening up possibilities for mixed ensemble playing.
Reviews
Mary Cohen's two books of Superduets for cellists provide a fun and easily accessible introduction to chamber playing. The first volume, Duets with a difference for beginner cellists, is also suitable for larger group teaching, and can be used after just a few introductory lessons on the instrument. Each piece is preceded by a 'rhythm and beat rehearsal', which encourages more fluent sight-reading and friendly questions and technical tips are clearly presented in a way which would appeal to very young children. Though this first volume sticks to open strings and a few basic notes in first position, Cohen introduces a wide range of techniques and sound effects which help spice up the pieces.
