Description

Over recent years research into suicidal behaviour has burgeoned, and the third edition of this successful pocketbook reflects major developments in the evidence base and clinical practice. New chapters cover risk assessment and system-wide approaches to suicide prevention, and the role of clinical guidelines and national policies is also considered. This edition features extensive updates to the epidemiology of suicidal behaviour across the world, and also considers the individual and societal causes of suicide, particularly the effect of recent economic downturns in many countries. The chapter on biological factors includes the current research on the genetics and neuroscience of suicide. The chapters on interventions discuss the latest evidence from systematic reviews and new randomized controlled trials and highlight implications for clinical practice. The positive and negative impacts of the web and social media on suicidal behaviour are a major focus of research activity and new sections have been included to reflect this. The 'Frequently Asked Questions' section was well received in the previous edition and this has been revised further to include new/updated FAQs on euthanasia, assisted suicide, and suicide martyrdom. Part of the Oxford Psychiatry Library series, this useful handbook is an invaluable resource and quick-reference guide.

Reviews
"Suicide Prevention" is a remarkable book which covers an extraordinary amount of territory in a way that is precise and practical but also with humility and attention to the limitations of existing knowledge. Perhaps because of that it is also a pleasant and easy read. I'll be keeping it within arm's reach and suggest that you do the same. * Dr. Mark Sinyor, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Crisis *
Suicide prevention is everybody's business: this book is written particularly for those working in healthcare, to provide essential information for the busy clinician and for those working in population health so that their practice can be as soundly based as possible. It covers all important aspects of the epidemiology and causes of suicide, and evidence for potentially effective interventions both at the individual level and at the level of populations and health services. Helpful examples of real-world practice are scattered through the text. ... This informative and practical book would be profitably read by everybody working in healthcare. * Allan House, Professor of Liaison Psychiatry, University of Leeds *
Nav Kapur and Bob Goldney have written a perceptive, comprehensive examination of what we know about suicide prevention, updating the book's excellent predecessors and retaining their clarity of purpose and style ... Kapur and Goldney strike a positive tone. People's lives may be complex, risk may be hard to measure, evidence may be patchy, but in the end suicide prevention is possible. * Prof Louis Appleby, Chair National Suicide Prevention Strategy Advisory Group, UK *
... should be essential reading for anyone starting their training in psychiatry or mental health nursing. It is a concise yet comprehensive introduction to suicide and its assessment. It can also be used by any professional in any country. * Review of the 2nd Edition, Highly Commended in the BMA Book Awards 2014 *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
