Description

As space continues to attract substantial public and private investment and has become ever more active, the third edition of this successful book has been fully updated to cover recent developments. This includes the legal bases of UN Resolution 76/3 The "Space3030" Agenda which envisages 'space as a driver of sustainable development' and sets out an extensive programme for the future. The work also takes account of adaptations and augmentations to basic space treaties. It examines the increasing commercialisation of space in areas such as space tourism and space mining for which four states have already adopted relevant legislation. The impact of new technologies such as the deployment of satellite constellations and micro-satellites are also scrutinised. At a time when space tourism is available to those who can afford it and when the Moon will shortly be revisited with a prospect of permanent bases, this third edition provides a firm base for the next generation of space lawyers. As with previous editions, the work draws from governmental, international organisational and other authoritative sources as well as the relevant literature in the field. The book will be an essential and comprehensive resource for students, academics and researchers as well as space agencies, governments and space-active companies. It will also be of value to technical operatives and managers who need to know the legal context within which they work.

Reviews

'Lyall and Larsen are to be congratulated. This new edition continues the fine tradition of the earlier editions, while taking into account the developments of the last decade. For lawyers, scientist, entrepreneurs, space enthusiasts and the curious it will provide a solid understanding of the regulatory framework for space activities.'

Yun Zhao, Henry Cheng Professor in International Law and Associate Dean, Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong

'The two Masters of Space Law - Friends since their attendance at the space law class at McGill University - do not allow for any excuse: new developments - a new Edition. For anybody seriously interested in space law this book is a must - masterly written, well researched and analysed, lots of original thoughts.'

Stephan Hobe, Director, Institute of Air and Space Law, Cologne, Germany.

'The scope of space activities continues to grow. Professors Lyall and Larsen's Space Law: A Treatise has become the 'go-to' reference providing a rigorous, comprehensive and pragmatic analysis of the many legal issues that arise. This updated edition will ensure that readers have a much better understanding of how to meet the challenges of the 21st century.'

Steven Freeland, Emeritus Professor, Western Sydney University and Bond University, Australia.

'This book serves as the essential treatise on all aspects of space law, including the rapidly-growing and always-vexing problems regarding military activities in space. It's the one volume that I always keep handy at my desk, for ready reference regarding the full array of space law issues.'

David A. Koplow, Scott K. Ginsberg Professor of Law, Georgetown University Law Center, Washington DC.

'When asked to recommend a space law book my response is always and only Lyall and Larsen. Researched in detail, clear, comprehensive, informative, forward-thinking and beautifully written it grows in significance with each edition. Space law rapidly increases in academic and commercial importance. For those wishing to learn and practise it this book is the best.'

Professor Joanne Wheeler MBE, University of Leicester, Managing Partner Alden Legal, UK.

'In my view Space Law: A Treatise by Francis Lyall and Paul B. Larsen is the best book on Space Law.'

Ram S. Jakhu, Full Professor, Former Director Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
