Reviews
wide-ranging and very readable... has an authority which is magisterial in the best sense of the word, and which is encouraging for all engaged with 'God's other peoples'. * Michael Ipgrave, Theology *
Salvation for All may be regarded as the most comprehensive treatment to date of biblical sources that demonstrate God's universal work of salvation... can be read as a generous Christian attempt to include all peoples in God's plan of salvation as conceived in Christian terms. * Catherine Cornille, Horizons *
Readers will be grateful to Gerald O'Collins for Salvation for All: God's Other Peoples. He takes us on a hopeful journey through the Bible and enables us to draw upon its generous, inclusive wisdom. Without excess complication or defensiveness, O'Collins makes clear that the biblical heritage is in fact actually a blessing and rich resource for our time. * Francis X. Clooney, Horizons *
Salvation for All more than fulfills its stated aim, namely, to present "the full range of scriptural testimony that is relevant to the role of Jesus for redemption of the human race" (vi). Clearly and engagingly written, the book is a treasure-trove of theological insights. It has been not only a gratifying learning experience for me but also an immense pleaseure to peruse it through and through... May the book find a well-deserved wide readership and stimulate a fruitful conversation about a Christian theology of religion. * Peter C. Phan, Horizons *
Indeed it is this sustained attention to the scriptures, on the part of one also instructed and skilled in the practice of sophisticated tools of interpretation, which gives this work its inherent authority as well as its charm. This book...will effectively equip readers to negotiate the conflicts joined by debating with the abstract terms noted earlier. * David Burrell, The Tablet *
This is a groundbreaking book and makes an invaluable contribution to interfaith dialogue. For some Christians the content may be challenging and uncomfortable. I am no theologian but I found it fascinating and accessible. * Teresa De Bertodano, The Good Bookstall website *
O'Collins is a fine expositor of Scripture, and his book will prove attractive to general readers as well as the scholarly community in its clarity and interesting interpretative style. ... useful and thoughtful. * Timothy Bradshaw, Journal of Theological Studies *
