Description

Published and updated annually, Russia and Eurasia deals with the twelve independent republics that became members of the Commonwealth of Independent States following the collapse of the Soviet Union in December 1992. The text focuses strongly on recent economic and political developments with shorter sections dealing with foreign policy, the military, religion, education, and specific cultural elements that help to define each republic and differentiate one from the other. Approximately one-third of the book is devoted to Russia, but also includes sections on Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. How the Commonwealth of Independent States came into being and how it has evolved since 1992 is also discussed. The combination of factual accuracy and up-to-date detail along with its informed projections make this an outstanding resource for researchers, practitioners in international development, media professionals, government officials, potential investors and students.

Reviews
This 48th edition begins with introductory comments followed by an analysis of the Russian Federation; it includes information on the land and people, the Communist era, the Putin presidency, the culture, the changing economy, and much more. This is the largest section of the book, at 137 pages. This section is followed by a discussion of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Although shorter in length, the sections on Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan contain plentiful information about such things as the land, people, culture, history, and economy of each country. Country sections also begin with handy facts on the size of the country and population, cities, the climate, neighboring states, languages spoken, ethnic composition, principal religions, chief commercial products, currency, per capita annual income, recent political status, chief of state, head of government, national flag, and national day. The addition of easy-to-read black-and-white maps enhances the work, as does the use of black-and-white photos. Authored by Brent Hierman, assistant professor in the Department of International Studies at the Virginia Military Institute, this reference work provides quick and authoritative answers. Recommended to public and academic libraries. * American Reference Books Annual *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
