Description

The Routledge Companion to Christianity in Africa offers a multi-disciplinary analysis of the Christian tradition across the African continent and throughout a long historical span. The volume offers historical and thematic essays tracing the introduction of Christianity in Africa, as well as its growth, developments, and effects, including the lived experience of African Christians. Individual chapters address the themes of Christianity and gender, the development of African-initiated churches, the growth of Pentecostalism, and the influence of Christianity on issues of sexuality, music, and public health. This comprehensive volume will serve as a valuable overview and reference work for students and researchers worldwide.

About the Author

Elias Kifon Bongmba holds the Harry and Hazel Chair in Christian Theology and Professor Religion at Rice University and serves as President of the African Association for the Study of Religion.

Reviews

"[This] is the most comprehensive scholarly treatment of the major historical and current trends in the academic study of Christianity in Africa."

Dwight N. Hopkins, University of Chicago, USA

"Christianity is a common denominator of the astonishing diversity of Africa's fifty-four countries and more than two thousand ethnicities, languages, and indigenous religions. Elias Bongmba and his excellent collaborators-many of them African scholars-cannot hope to capture all that Christianity has been and is over the many hundreds of years it has been an African faith, yet their targeted insights offer readers both broad views and deep revelations."

Allen Roberts, University of California, Los Angeles, USA

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
