The C of E has 30,000 churchwardens, of which several thousand are elected for the first time every year.

The role of the churchwarden in the Anglican Church has not changed much over the years, although perhaps the respectability and authority of the role has diminished. About the Author
Matthew Clements is a highly experienced churchwarden, and church and small charity treasurer. Previously he has been a professional chartered engineer, and is now experienced in the management and repair of listed buildings. He is therefore well placed to offer advice on what the churchwarden job in the Anglican church actually entails.
