Description

Well established as a classic reference and specialised textbook, since its first publication in 1973, Heinrich Kuttruff's Room Acoustics combines detailed coverage with a state of art presentation of the theory and practice of sound behaviour in closed spaces.

This sixth edition presents several additional new sections, for instance on the reflection of a spherical wave from a wall, on finite element methods for sound field calculation and on virtual reality, as well as giving an overhaul of the standard material. Particular emphasis is given to the properties and calculation of reverberation, the most obvious acoustical feature of a room. And further key topics include the various mechanisms of sound absorption and their practical application as well as scattering by wall irregularities including pseudo-stochastic structures. Extensive space is given to of psychoacoustic insights and the quality criteria derived from them, along with new procedures for the sensory assessment of concert hall acoustics.

As in earlier editions, one full and updated chapter is devoted to the design and performance of electroacoustic systems which nowadays is not just a method for sound amplification but offers many possibilities for correcting acoustic deficiencies and modifying a hall's natural acoustics.

About the Author
Heinrich Kuttruff is Emeritus Professor and former head of the Institute of Technical Acoustics at Aachen University, Germany.

Reviews

"Room Acoustics remains a classic which should continue to find a place on the shelf of many acousticians."

-- David Thompson in Journal of Sound and Vibration

"In its sixth edition, this book remains an indispensable guide for students and practitioners of acoustics. It presents first principles in depth while also being concise, with great supporting diagrams. An easy-to-use reference and go-to resource, particularly for the practitioner looking to relate complex real-world findings back to fundamental theory.

--Raj Patel, Arup Acoustics, USA

"An extremely elegant textbook that covers the engineering aspects of room acoustics. I recommend it to anyone wanting a sound technical introduction into room acoustics, without spending too much time on perception."

--Jean-Dominique Polac, Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris

"An unavoidable reference for any serious work in the field of room acoustics."

-- Jens Rindel in Nuntius

"The author covers sound waves, sound production, and the mechanics of hearing; the reflection and scattering of sound; the behavior of sound waves in a room; geometrical room acoustics; reverberation and steady-state energy density, sound absorption and sound absorbers, and many other related subjects."

-- Eithne O'Leyne, Editor, ProtoView

"Overall, this edition provides valuable new material to keep this classic text up-to-date. If your work or studies involves room acoustics, this book should be your first port of call."

-- Neil Thompson Shade in Noise Control Engr. J

"This book in its sixth edition will still receive its readership across many generations of architectural acousticians, graduate students, scientists in acoustics, and beyond"

-- Ning Xiang, Graduate Program in Architectural Acoustics, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

"A must in any good acoustician's library."

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
