Description

A breathtaking journey along the world's most important rivers, from the author of international bestseller Timeline This breathtaking journey on the world's most important rivers, seas and oceans tells the story of our planet through cultures, myths, icons and history. It takes us from the Nile to the Amazon, the Mekong Delta to the Mississippi, the Murray to the Waikato.

Each map is full of fascinating facts about nature, culture and history, with major events and historical figures alongside favourite stories and icons.

As the life source of people, animals and the land itself, the world's waterways tell a compelling story about our history and our lives today. This absorbing, playful book shows who we are, how we live and the myths we weave around our people and places.

"Rivers is just as beautiful and compelling as Timeline and has the same crossover appeal. It's a Peter Goes mix of stories, facts and icons that bring history to life with a sense of wonder and humour." Julia Marshall, Publisher

Reviews
History, science, and geography meet the beauty and creativity of old-world cartography in this stunning visual display of the rivers that flow over mountains and valleys, across deserts, on all seven continents, and into the world's oceans. Full-page spreads in vivid jewel tones are illustrated with local culture and legends, native plants and animals, sea monsters, ships, and compass roses, from the banks of the Ganges to the winding Thames, the Loire, the Danube, and the mighty Amazon.--starred, Foreword Reviews -- "Website" (10/22/2018 12:00:00 AM) In an ornate volume, Goes (Timeline) opens with a short exploration of the five oceans before focusing on rivers in Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Antarctica. Spreads focus on single rivers of significant size, as well as smaller ones in close proximity and those that ultimately merge. Goes succinctly describes each: 'In the east of Russia's Siberia, the Lena is one of the longest rivers in the world.' Spreads show impish figures, along with cultural, geographical, historical, and mythological icons ('The kappa is a mythical water spirit that lives in Japan's rivers and lakes'). The presentation is appropriately fluid, focusing less on individual locations or relative distances and more on the interconnectivity of the world's bodies of water.--Publishers Weekly -- "Journal" (10/22/2018 12:00:00 AM)

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
