What are the reasons behind, and trajectories of, the rapid cultural changes in Ukraine since 2013? This volume highlights: the role of the Revolution of Dignity and the Russian-Ukrainian war in the formation of Ukrainian civil society; the forms of warfare waged by Moscow against Kyiv, including information and religious wars; Ukrainian and Russian identities and cultural realignment; sources of destabilisation in Ukraine and beyond; memory politics and Russian foreign policies; the Kremlins geopolitical goals in its 'near abroad'; and factors determining Ukraines future and survival in a state of war. The studies included in this collection illuminate the growing gap between the political and social systems of Ukraine and Russia. The anthology illustrates how the Ukrainian revolution of 20132014, Russias annexation of the Crimean peninsula, and its invasion of eastern Ukraine have altered the post-Cold War political landscape and, with it, the regional and global power and security dynamics.

About the Author
Dr. Igor Torbakov studied history at Moscow State University and the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. He is a Senior Fellow at the Uppsala Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies and at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs. He was a visiting researcher at the Kennan Institute, at Columbia and Harvard, at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, and at the German Council on Foreign Relations. His articles have appeared in Nationalities Papers, Ab Imperio, Demokratizatsiya, The Harriman Review, Transition Studies Review, Slavic & East European Information Resources, Mediterranean Quarterly, Scando-Slavica, Insight Turkey, Slavianovedenie, Turkish Review of Eurasian Studies, and The Finnish Journal on Russian and East European Studies. Andreas Umland is Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for European Security in the Institute of International Relations at Prague, Principal Researcher of the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation at Kyiv, and General Editor of the ibidem-Verlag book series Soviet and Post-Soviet Politics and Society. Bohdan Harasymiw is acting as coordinator for political and regional studies at CIUS Press, University of Alberta. Before retiring in 2005, he was Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary. Trained as a Sovietologist, he specialized in the study of political elites and leadership. In 1989-91, he was seconded to the Government of Canada as an intelligence analyst. "Dr Oksana Huss is a Research Fellow at Bologna University. She earned her PhD at the University of Duisburg-Essen and held a postdoc position at Leiden University. Huss taught at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy as well as Kyiv School of Economics, and consulted the Council of Europe, EU, UNESCO, and UNODC. She is a co-founder of ICRNetwork.orgthe Interdisciplinary Corruption Research Network.
