Description
The essential guide to modern equipment found in merchant ships, focusing on 'motor' propulsion for marine engineers.
Developed to complement Reeds vol 8: General Engineering Knowledge for Marine Engineers, this indispensable textbook comprehensively covers the motor engineering syllabus for marine engineering officer cadets. It is the only guide available focusing on knowledge needed to pass the motor engineering Certificate of Competency (CoC) examinations.
Accessibly written and clearly illustrated with technical drawings, it begins with theoretical and practical thermodynamic operating cycles. The book is structured to give descriptions of engines and individual components used to extract heat energy from fossil fuels and achieve high levels of engine efficiency.
This revised edition has been updated and expanded to remain current, covering hybrid systems, biofuels and waste heat recovery.
It includes new self-assessment questions and examples to aid learning and improve assessment outcomes.
