Description

Heroic, radical and at times hilarious, Queen Hynde is Ossian with jokes; but Hogg's epic has serious purposes in mind. Its picture of the ancient Scottish past has much in common with stories of King Arthur and Camelot; and Queen Hynde aspires to emulate Paradise Lost as a Christian epic.

About the Author
Suzanne Gilbert is Lecturer at the University of Stirling. She is a ballad scholar, and a General Editor of the Stirling/South Carolina Edition, for which she has edited Queen Hynde (with Douglas S. Mack). The late Douglas S. Mack was formerly Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Stirling.

Reviews
Of the poem itself, one has to say that it is extraordinary and for many of us it is likely to count as a major Hogg 'discovery' ... its new accessibility is an exciting and necessary contribution to our understanding of Hogg ... The notes can be read themselves, for pleasure. Many are substantial essays in their own right. They confirm the impression given by the edition as a whole, that the editorial task has been undertaken with a peculiar degree of commitment and with a determination that a long-postponed duty towards James Hogg will now be undertaken with a thoroughness which should stand the test of time. The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
