This book chronicles our journey in trying to solve my wife's medical issues. She was a family physician with her own private practice for 25 years. She served as a physician in the Canadian Armed Forces upon graduating medical school and over the years experienced virtually every facet of medicine. She did emergency room shifts, surgical assists, obstetrics, worked at after-hours clinics to name a few, until she got very sick... I was raised in a family that only went to a doctor when a bone was broken or stitches were needed, but I had gained a healthy respect for medicine from managing her medical practice. That opinion changed as it now became personal, and it didn't take long before I reverted back to skepticism of medical systems that I inherited from my father. It took five years of declining health for my wife to admit that the mainstream medical system that she spent her entire professional career serving was now failing to resolve her issues. We felt we had no choice but to walk away hoping to find answers elsewhere. Our strange trip/odyssey has completely redefined what we thought medicine ought to be. If our experience helps one person to avoid the pitfalls we encountered, then the purpose of this book will have been served.
