Description

This clear and accessible book offers a fresh perspective on the application of psychology in a wide range of pastoral activity. It presents a model of pastoral care that is Eucharistic and incarnational - a form of participation in the community. The book goes on to discuss the nature of the unconscious and three core areas in mental well-being: attachment, sexuality and loss. It then addresses specific issues in mental health such as depression, addiction, psychotic breakdown and eating disorder, all within the context of pastoral relationships. A final section explores the nature of betrayal and the meaning of forgiveness. This is an informative and practical book, bringing together the insights of contemporary psychology with a theological understanding of pastoral contexts. The many illustrations from personal experiences ground the theory in real-life situations.

About the Author
Jessica Rose has worked in private practice as a counsellor and supervisor since 1990. She was Lecturer in Pastoral Psychology at Ripon College Cuddesdon from 1993 to 2000 and a Tutor and Supervisor on the Pastoral Counselling Course at St John's College, Nottingham from 1994 to 1999.

Reviews
Jessica Rose has brought together a wealth of experience, knowledge and insight. Difficult and sensitive psychological issues are presented skilfully and with compassion. This timely and very readable book will surely become a foundational text for those in pastoral ministry. -- Tony Nolan
In a book that speaks as authoritatively on Maximus the Confessor and Augustine as it does on Freud and Jung, Jessica Rose skilfully and clearly navigates the reader through contemporary psychological understandings in order to support and enrich the distinctive role of the pastor. Illustrated with moving stories, practical advice and theological reflection, this will be a rich resource for the pastoral ministry of both lay and ordained. -- Brian Castle

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
