About the Author
After nearly forty years of riding motorbikes, Andy Westlake is one of the UK's leading motorcycle magazine journalists. He contributes to leading monthly magazines such as The Classic Motorcycle, Classic Dirt Bike and Motorcycle Sport and Leisure in the UK, and also classic and off-road magazines in France, the USA, and Australia. He attended his first motorcycle sports event as an eight year old in 1961, and it is the bikes and people of that era that he writes so passionately about. He has competed with great success in classic long distance trials, and as recently as 2006 won a gold medal in the Lands End trial on his Cheney Triumph. Andy has also toured extensively on Guzzi twins, including a coast-to-coast trip across the USA.
Reviews
really interesting reading ... filled with often little known anecdotes and ... plentiful photographs Motor Cycling Club (MCC) a must read for all who lined the circuits and trails on muddy Sundays and were glued to their TV sets on Saturday winter afternoons when the event was televised on BBC Grandstand. The interviews are well crafted and Westlake's own enthusiasm for the subject comes through as he recounts the riders past glories, as well as bringing their stories up to date ... well worth the asking price. Ian Kerr The format is the same as the previous two - why change what works eh? A number of stars from the world of trials and scrambles are interviewed, pictures sourced and the result is a well thought through book with loads of information on the guys that used to fill the pages of our newspapers years ago. Classic Dirt Bike an excellent book. Jonathan Hill - freelance Against the backdrop of [...] world and national events of the time, it would have been easy for achievements and remarkable individual stories of some of the UK's greatest motocross and trials riders to have been all but forgotten. Thanks to the work of veteran moto-journalist Andy Westlake ... those days are not only remembered, they are brought to life in vivid narrative and more than 100 great period racing black and white images ... Are most of [the rider's] names unfamiliar? All the more reason to give the Off-Road Giants series a look-the stories and images will make you glad you made their acquaintance. Ultimate MotorCycling contains over one hundred previously unpublished, all period taken photographs that are great black and white, full of action shots. If you were ever into the motorcycle off-road, competition scene you will thoroughly enjoy this action-packed volume. Norm Mort - Freelance gives an excellent flavour of competing back in the day, told by those who really were there. Bike Rider Magazine Full of wonderfully evocative photos, the book is a real strip back in time to a golden era. Old Bike Australasia
