He is a past chair of the Nonprofit Organizations Committee and the State and Local Bar Relations Committee of the ABA Business Law Section. Bill also is active in the Iowa State Bar Association and chaired the committee that drafted Iowa's current nonprofit corporation statute. Bill is the co-editor of Guidebook for Directors of Nonprofit Corporations (ABA 2012). He is the editor of Nonprofit Law: A Practical Guide to Legal Issues to Nonprofit Organizations (ABA 2017).
