Description

Dementia research has undergone a dramatic growth driven by the current and projected increase in the aging of the population, leading to a large number of patients with dementia by 2050. Advances in neuroimaging, brain chemistry, and genetics have accelerated our understanding of diseases that lead to cognitive decline. Following the early emphasis on Alzheimer's disease in the 1970s, other causes of dementia have emerged with vascular dementia being the second major cause. While the initial studies on amyloid and tau in Alzheimer's disease dominated the field for over 30 years, the growing awareness that the combination of Alzheimer's pathology and vascular disease, referred to as mixed dementia, is the major form. In patients with early onset of dementia, one form may be dominant, but with time the aging of the vasculature creates an environment that leads to neuroinflammation. Neuroinflammation in Dementia describes the molecular mechanisms that drive this transition to mixed pathology, and the newer lifestyle and pharmacological approaches that will be used in the future to reduce the incidence of dementia. It describes the practical aspects of neuroimaging methods that are used in everyday practice, along with novel neuroimaging methods, using MRI, that are becoming important clinically. The author also discusses how diagnosis of dementias will be greatly aided by biomarkers from neuroimaging, blood and CSF biochemistry, and neuropsychological testing in the future. This information will be used in precision medicine to design treatment strategies based on the most likely causes of the disease.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
