Description

A kaleidoscope of vivid, moving and highly entertaining accounts of the delights of dog ownership: an anthology of stories from TV personalities, broadcasters, politicians, writers, and many others. Brought to life with colour photographs of the writers and their beloved canine companions, this is an ideal bedside or coffee table book that can be read cover-to-cover, or simply 'dipped into.' It conveys the key message that dogs can - and do - have a positive impact on the way we feel and live. All author royalties go to the charity Samaritans, to support its invaluable work of alleviating emotional distress and reducing suicidal behaviour.

About the Author
Jacki resigned from the Scottish government to be at home and satisfy her yearning for a dog, and - five years on - still marvels at the positive impact that her scruffy lurcher has had on her life. Trading her long career within the public sector to that of a self-employed consultant, Jacki has continued to specialise in deepening the understanding about how people can be helped to flourish, feel more positive, and be happier. Jacki's book brings together her passion for dogs and her long-standing interest and expertise in mental health. All author royalties are being donated to the Samaritans. Professor Stephen Platt, Samaritans trustee, is Professor of Health Policy Research at the Centre for Population Health Sciences, University of Edinburgh. For over 30 years, he has pursued a research interest in mental health and suicidal behaviour, and has written exclusively on these topics. Involved in policy development and analysis relating to public mental health and mental health improvement, Stephen has also successfully collaborated with policy planners and practitioners working in these areas. Co-author of With Health in Mind (2002), an influential publication that helped to shift the debate about mental health in Scotland from the treatment of mental ill-health, to the promotion of positive mental wellbeing in the community. Stephen remembers with great fondness the many hours he spent as a child playing with two very lively family corgis.

Reviews
This is very much a life-affirming book that will appeal to non-dog owners as well as those of us that do share our life with a dog. Lost and Fond Blog This is a really attractive book for all lovers of dogs and those who are intrigued by the 'healing' psychological effects of pets generally ... a lovely Christmas stocking filler for any dog lover. It is a book to kick off your shoes and curl up with and simply enjoy heart warming stories. Pet Owners Association My Dog, my Friend is an inspiring testimony to the power of dogs. It belongs on every dog lover's bedside table. My Dog, my friend offers the reader perceptive insights into worlds shared with dogs. A gem of collective wisdom to inspire us all. This beautifully conceived testimony to the dog is an ideal gift. Geelong Obedience Dog Club As the title implies, this spirited romp is sure to make the reader smile and affirm once again how that four-legged character nestled alongside him/her and possibly helping flip the pages is a best friend and valued family member. Seattle Kennel Club It's a delightful collection and, with all author royalties donated to the Samaritans, I would think a difficult one to resist. The Guardian lavishly illustrated and very well written ... This is an ideal "coffee table" book, it can be picked up and put down at any time but at the same time I found it hard to put down once opened ... Buy it, I am positive it is not a book you will ever regret acquiring. Trevor Turner What could make a better Christmas gift for the dog lover in your life than a book about the comfort and joy offered by man's best friend? dogsinthenews.co.uk Easy to pick up, read a few accounts, slowly sip a drink and quietly reflect on the interactions and episodes recounted ... attractive to doggie people and just as heartwarming for those that are not so committed. It is ideal as a stocking filler for Christmas or a present at any time of the year. The Kennel Club

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
