Description

Industrial mixing processes often present multiple optimization challenges to producing desirable products. The resulting processes must be cost effective, "first-time right," and frequently, the designated most-effective technology for the global manufacture of specific products. Mixing Process Technology shares the authors' extensive knowledge of mixing research and industrial practice. It features twenty industrial mixing chapters that are purposely light on mixing fundamentals, while heavy on practical mixing applications for practical process design and manufacturing. This text serves as an applied guide to industrial mixing for practitioners who want brief explanations of mixing concepts with real-life examples and software to help perform associated design calculations.

* Offers side by side discussion of mixing systems including impellers and rotor-stators, as offered by several major manufacturers.

* Describes the authors' innovative mixer designs to meet manufacturing needs.

* Includes a chapter by a mixer manufacturing representative describing design, sizing, and expensing of industrial mixers.

* Presents a chapter by a mixing equipment manufacturing leader that explains mechanical design considerations in clear terms.

* Contains a chapter on emerging mixing technologies, including mixing via resonant acoustics and controlled cavitation.

* Discusses computational fluid dynamics in mixing with multiple practical examples by a contributing author from a leading pharmaceutical company.

* Includes Excel-based mixing worksheets throughout book examples and Excel-based input/output (Mixit-io) interface hosted on the publisher's website.

This book is aimed at chemical and process engineers as well as students seeking to understand industrial mixing technology.

About the Author

Kishore Kar dedicated 36 years of service to The Dow Chemical Company and retired as an R&D Fellow. He is currently serving as a chemical process technology consultant. Kishore holds 18 US patents and has authored more than 35 publications including two chapters in the Encyclopedia of Chemical Processing published by Taylor & Francis. During his Dow career Kishore led the Global Fluid Mechanics and Mixing Discipline. Kishore received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Fluid, Thermal and Aerospace Sciences) from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, USA.

Richard Cope received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University and spent 19+ yrs in chemicals R&D (Dow) and 7+ yrs in biopharma R&D (Eli Lilly, and Alkermes). In 2017 he conceived/co-designed a mixing experiment for the International Space Station. In 2020 he joined SPX FLOW, the world's largest mixing solutions provider. He has co-authored 19 papers/encyclopedia chapters and 7 US or world patents for mixing technologies. Richard was Treasurer of North American Mixing Forum (NAMF) from 2012 to 2024 and recipient of the NAMF Mixing Award in 2020.

Juergen Lueske enjoyed 35 years with The Dow Chemical Company. His focus in the Process Engineering group was project planning and process development, with emphasis on modeling and simulation for large projects. In the Fluid Mechanics and Mixing group his focus was calculations and modeling of gas-liquid contactors, especially fermenters and bioreactors. He has authored several papers and co-authored 2 encyclopedia chapters. Juergen received his MS degree in Mechanical and Process Engineering from Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
