Description

From a pioneer in the field of mental health comes a groundbreaking book on the healing power of 'mindsight' - the human capacity for empathy and insight

Daniel Siegel coined the term 'mindsight' to describe the innovative integration of brain science with the practice of psychotherapy.

Using interactive examples and case histories from his clinical practice, Dr Siegel shows how mindsight can be applied to alleviate a range of psychological and interpersonal problems. With warmth and humour, he shows us how to observe the working of our minds, allowing us to understand why we think, feel, and act the way we do, and how, by following the proper steps, we can literally change the wiring and architecture of our brains.

Right now, Dr. Siegel is creating a stir among therapists unmatched by any other in the field. 'Mindsight' offers a fascinating synthesis of his innovative ideas about the implications of the new brain science for understanding relationships and the processes of human change. Richard Simon - editor of 'Psychotherapy Networker' Mindsight is a remarkable exploration into the synergistic workings of the mind and the brain. Using clinical vignettes as well as revelations about his own life, Dr. Siegel shows us how we can go from reactive impulsiveness to receptive awareness so that we can make valid choices, not blindly repeat maladaptive behaviours. It will be enormously useful for patients and their families, as well as mental health workers and the lay public at large. Clarice Kestenbaum - professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University Mindsight is a rare book. Rooted in groundbreaking scientific research and searching professional practice, it is also a deeply compassionate and human account of what it is to be human. Mindsight has powerful lessons for doctors, for parents and educators, and for all of us who are trying to make sense of how we make sense of things. Ken Robinson - author of The Element: A New View of Human Capacity "Graceful, wise, creative, utterly approachable...Through beautiful and often remarkable case histories, he shows us the principles we can use to better understand ourselves...change our minds, brains, relationships, some lifelong character traits, and even the course of some important mental illnesses." Norman Doidge - author of The Brain that Changes Itself This exciting book reveals the secrets of the mind that we have sought in Eastern and Western thought for two thousand years. How do we see the mind and learn to tame it for a happier and healthier life? Filled with engaging stories, 'Mindsight' uses cutting-edge science and deep humanity to address the questions that we all have about the mystery in our skull. Natalie Goldberg - author of 'Old Friend from Far Away and Writing Down the Bones' In this brilliant and highly readable book, Dr. Siegel combines his prodigious knowledge of brain science, clinical psychology, and mindfulness with his immense capacity for original thinking to develop a new and useful concept: mindsight. An intrepid navigator of the vast sea inside us all, he maps the territory and offers amazing insights into how to benefit from the journey. His work will forever change the way we understand ourselves and our relationships. Mary Pipher - author of 'Reviving Ophelia and Seeking Peace' In 'The Developing Mind', Daniel Siegel brilliantly revealed how relationships sculpt and are sculpted by the brain. 'Mindsight' is the perfect follow- up, a daring plan of action for a wiser and kinder life that's transformative yet easy to understand, and should appeal to specialists and laymen alike - in fact, to anyone who wants to enrich their life, their children's lives, and society. Diane Ackerman - author of 'The Zookeeper's Wife and A Natural History of the Senses' "An extraordinary book, integrating the knowledge from the latest brain science with ancient wisdom. Daniel Siegel offers both new insights and practices that can transform lives. A wonderful achievement." Mark Williams - Professor of Clinical Psychology and Wellcome Principal Research Fellow, University "Dr Siegel, an internationally acclaimed psychiatrist and psychotherapist, has provided us with an extraordinary rich and scholarly guide into the human mind and its capacity for understanding itself and the minds of others. Ranging over areas such as the importance of compassion and affection in our lives from the day we are born, the emergence of multiplicity in our experience of ourselves and others, the role of mirror neurons in empathy, and the transforming power of mindfulness, his immense knowledge and experience open up new horizons for scientific study and personal transformation. Written with personal anecdotes, gentleness, and wisdom, the ease and clarity of his writing is a dream. He never patronises us but always educates. This book is a great gift to those who seek to bring more wisdom and compassion to the world and digs deeply into the roots of our suffering. It makes clear the personal and scientific challenges of the future in the pursuit of understanding our minds. A treasure of a book." Paul Gilbert - Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Derby and author of 'The Compas Dr. Siegel's groundbreaking explorations of the brain provide a remarkable window into the physiological underpinnings of human behaviour. 'Mindsight' is a literary MRI: a mind- blowing book that will change the way you think about the way you think. The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
