About the Author
A composer and organist, Daniel Purcell was the brother of renowned composer Henry Purcell. After starting out as a chorister in the Chapel Royal, he was appointed organist of Magdalen College, Oxford, where he wrote his first compositions. Purcell then moved to London in 1695, where he went on to compose music for over 40 plays, and worked as an organist at St Dunstan's-in-the-East, and from 1713 at St. Andrew's, Holborn. Although a talented composer in his own right, to this day Daniel Purcell's music is overshadowed by the achievements of his more famous brother, Henry.
