The authors present historic works (including those focused on people's occupations) alongside contemporary research addressing the situations and contexts that shape people's experiences. Donald O. Case, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, USA), where he was Professor in the College of Communication and Information for 21 years, serving as Director of the School of Information Science for three years.

Rebekah (Becky) Willson, PhD, is Assistant Professor in the School of Information Studies, McGill University (Montreal, Canada).
