Description

Covering Lebanon's history through the Civil War of 1975-89, Sandra Mackey lays the groundwork needed to comprehend this often ill-understood country-offering insight into its role as the gateway between West and East, and bringing a clarity of focus to the schisms that serve to divide and define Lebanon.

About the Author
Sandra Mackey (1937-2015) was a veteran journalist who had written many books on the Middle East, including The Reckoning: Iraq and the Legacy of Saddam Hussein, Lebanon, The Saudis, and The Iranians.

Reviews
"Draws a lucid map of an apparently impossible complexity." -- Newsday
"Highly recommended...[Mackey] warns that the West's habit of ignoring issues that inflame the Islamic world until they hit home only fuels Arab anger. Lebanon, she believes, is not only a catastrophe deserving attention in its own right, but also a portent of what could happen throughout the Middle East." -- Atlanta Journal-Constitution
"Of all the countries in the bewildering Middle East, surely the most difficult to comprehend must be Lebanon...Half the battle of understanding Lebanon is merely being able to tell who's who among the contending parties. Mackey...helps us meet this challenge by offering lucid, dramatic histories of the peoples of Lebanon." -- New York Times
"For those who seek an understanding of Lebanon behind the head-lines and the two-minute news summaries, this will be a very helpful book." -- Commonwealth

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
