Description

Thirteen-year-old Evan Brown has made a confused statement about a 'blackness' coming out of the ceiling and attacking his parents. His mother is in a coma; his father, missing since the attack, is the prime suspect. The police assume it's a case of domestic violence and that Evan is traumatised. Evan certainly doesn't want to make things worse by revealing he can hear a voice inside his head - Kenji - a voice he's never wanted. When dark shadows appear in the tree outside his window and a mysterious cat begins to stalk him, Evan starts to believe he really must be losing his mind, but with no new leads and the police becoming increasingly suspicious, he is left with no choice but to follow Kenji across a bridge into an unknown and dangerous challenge. Can he undo the damage that's been done and save others, not just himself, from harm? Family secrets and cosmic forces are at work in this gripping story for young adult readers.

About the Author
LJM Wadsworth grew up in the shadow of the Pennines, where anyone with an interest in legends, ghosts, UFOs and all things 'strange' could take a walk on the moors and expect not be disappointed. When she moved to Toronto in 1987 she joined a children's writing course to pursue her love of creative writing and realised her heart would always belong to YA sci-fi and fantasy fiction. She came across the works of American journalist and writer Robert Cormier, and admired his uncompromising novels for young adults. If pressed, she would say her major influences are Alan Garner, Robert Cormier, Susan Hill and John Wyndham, but generally she prefers to be influenced by stories rather than writers. She now lives in Nottinghamshire and often finds herself looking for all things 'strange' again. Kenji is Wadsworth's first published novel. She has had short stories published in the past, her first being 'The Boy Who Saw' (Thistledown Press), which was also listed on the curriculum of the Saskatchewan School Board in the category 'The Unknown' alongside John Wyndham; and her most recent being 'The Gardener' (again with a YA protagonist), which was selected as one of the runners-up in the Mslexia Short Story Competition 2021 (judged by Costa Book Award winner A L Kennedy) and appeared in their anthology Best Women's Short Fiction 2021.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
