Description

The two invasions of Britain by Julius Caesar in 55BC and 54BC have never been satisfactorily investigated and in particular no evidence has ever been found of the temporary marching camps his army would undoubtedly have constructed in their progress through south east England – until now. After many years of detailed research, Roger Nolan has painstakingly traced not only the places where the Romans landed, but he has also discovered four temporary marching camps Caesar’s army built as it drove up from the south coast in pursuit of the British tribal leader, Cassivellaunus. Roger Nolan has produced a fully detailed analysis of the invasions, an explanation of the reason why Caesar undertook them, and an assessment of their success when set against other historical campaigns. In particular, he has identified where the Roman army crossed the Thames. Identifying the site of the crossing, has enabled the temporary marching camps constructed by Caesar’s army to be discovered. What has emerged is that the site of the crossing and the four temporary marching camps are all in a straight line, and by tracing that line back, it has been possible to locate the probable site of the landing on the Kent coast. The discovery of the marching camps has enabled identification of the place mentioned in Caesar’s Commentaries, where the Roman legions were ambushed by the British whilst foraging and where a large battle then ensued – the first known land battle in Britain. Without doubt, this ground-breaking study is certain to prompt much discussion and reappraisal of this fascinating subject.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
