About the Author
JR exhibits freely in the streets of the world. Drawing on his background as a street artist, he pastes oversize black-and-white photos on walls, streets, and rooftops. His projects have taken him to the suburbs of Paris, the favelas of Brazil, the Israeli-Palestinian border, the streets of Tokyo, New York's Times Square, and beyond.
He has won the TED prize; created the biggest illegal exhibition ever,; been nominated for an Oscar alongside French New Wave legend Agnes Varda; created art for the 2016 Rio Olympics; made headlines with an installation along the US-Mexico border wall; opened a restaurant for refugees in Paris; been named one of TIME's 100 most influential people in 2018; and acted as an official photographer of the Academy Awards after party two years running.
In every place and through every project, he celebrates communities and individuals, tells compelling stories, and changes the way we see art. He divides his time between Paris and New York.
