Description

'Jam is for Girls' is Shagufta K's fiercely honest debut collection. Her work lays witness to the immigrant experience and gives voice to the women who made journeys into unknown lands through the eyes of their daughters. This is not a collection that struggles between two conflicting cultures, but is an unashamed and unapologetic confirmation of the third generation identity carving itself a space in an increasingly Islamaphobic world. She deftly balances passion and tenderness in her poems, exploring the personal and the political through gender inequality, racism and injustice that is present in the modern world. Leaving audiences with thought provoking poems that are rich and vivid in imagery.

About the Author
Shagufta K is a Bristol based artist working mostly with spoken word, theatre and film. She has been described as one of the most talked about performers in the region. She has performed at Glastonbury, Plymouth Literature Festival, Bloomsbury Literature Festival, Bristol Poetry Festival, Birmingham MAC and Bristol Old Vic. She has been performing and leading workshops for several years, and has studied English Literature and Creative Studies at Bath Spa University, and has a masters in Gender Studies. She is interested in bringing poetry to a wider audience, particularly through the use of spoken word, and live theatre. Keen to merge activism with art, she is a powerful and brave voice. A prime example of this is her 2015 poetry film 'Borders', with director Elizabeth Mizon, which has been screened at London Short Film Festival, Encounters Film Festival, and Tongues on Fire- London Asian Film Festival.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
