Description

Spanning a hundred years (1910 - 2010) and three geographical locations - Europe, Japan and North America - this unique book examines the capacity of performance to recode reality. It argues for a seamless continuity between philosophy, critical theory and artistic practice. Each chapter ends with scores, providing readers with the opportunity to explore the discussed ideas in an embodied, and, where applicable, interactional way.

The book's analysis of such landmark phenomena as the ready-made, action painting, intermedia, feminine writing, identity politics, cyborgian bio-art and ludic (h)activism make it an invaluable source for practical theorists, and undergraduate and Masters-level students of Performance Studies, Performing Arts, Fine and Visual Arts and Cultural Studies.

A committed voyage into performance praxis and synthesizing thought. This book offers a timely account of how bold and sometimes bizarre interdisciplinary combinations in performance can change the way we see the world; how they make a difference. This is not the sound of one hand clapping, but a guide book for stimulating, relevant and, above all, new performance work.' - Adrian Palka, Coventry University, UK 'Exploring interdisciplinarity as a form of 'thinking by doing', Lushetich delivers a much-needed analysis via an expansive selection of performance examples, historical contexts and critical materials that span the twentieth century. It includes performative provocations that will be useful for teachers, students and creative practitioners who wish to undertake embodied research of the sort interrogated within its pages. A very welcome addition to my bookshelf!' - Gianna Bouchard, Anglia Ruskin University, UK

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
