Description

This book gathers works based on both published and unpublished results detailing the successful application of processing and visualization tools for the subsurface. The book topic is Interactive Data Exploration for the Subsurface, where subsurface refers to both the solid earth and the water bodies of the earth. It is natural to cover both these areas as they have much in common with respect to how to perform data capture, how to analyze the data and how to visualize it. Interactive data exploration refers to interactive processing of data and visualization of data. This is an efficient combination of techniques, which has in the recent years become possible to perform due to hardware and algorithm developments. It enables the user to quickly get an overview of large datasets and perform detailed analysis. The techniques one apply, and the domains they are applied on are orthogonal to each other as shown in Figure 1, which summarizes the book topics. The solid earth and the waters of the earth contain valuable resources that can be extracted such as oil, gas, minerals, geothermal energy, and marine resources. This has given rise to large worldwide industries. Case studies from the subsurface domains are not as often presented in the visualization and computer graphics community as e.g. studies on medical, biological or flow data. Researchers in the field of visualization and computer graphics will therefore get valuable insight into the open visualization challenges of the subsurface domains, and how certain problems are currently solved using domain specific processing and visualization techniques. Subsurface data has interesting characteristics such as its solid nature, large scales and high degree of uncertainty, which makes it challenging to visualize with standard methods. It is also interesting how parallel fields of research has taken place in geosciences and in computer graphics, with different terminology, when it comes to representing geometry, describing terrains, interpolating data and example-based synthesis of data.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
