Description

Jimmy McClean is a young Lakota boy--though you would not guess it by his name: His father is a white man and his mother is Lakota. When he embarks on a journey with his grandfather, Nyles High Eagle, he learns more and more about his Lakota heritage--in particular, the story of Crazy Horse, one of the most important figures in Lakota history. Drawing inspiration from the oral stories of the Lakota tradition and the Lakota cultural mechanism of the "hero story," Joseph Marshall provides readers an insider's perspective on the life of Tasunke Witko, better known as Crazy Horse. Unlike many books written about Crazy Horse, Joseph Marshall traces Crazy Horse's life from birth to his emergence as a warrior in the early 1860s, describing his childhood exploits, training, the overall circumstances of his upbringing, and accomplishments as a warrior and military and civilian leader. Through his grandfather's tales about the famous warrior, Jimmy learns more about his Lakota heritage and, ultimately, himself.

"This powerful introduction to a great warrior and leader invites readers to ponder the meaning of 'hero.'"

* Kirkus Reviews *
As Jimmy and his grandfather's journey comes to an end, the boy has gained much more than a history lesson-he learns a great deal about courage, sacrifice, and the ties that connect him to his ancestors. VERDICT A moving narrative that should be required reading for all students of American history. * School Library Journal *
"Follow the geography of Crazy Horse's life...was instrumental in the most significant Native American military victory against the white invaders." * Publishers Weekly *
"It provides insights and stories that you don't get from academic historians...There is nothing like it." * Debbie Reese, American Indians in Children's Literature *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
