Description

There are many reasons why children and young people face barriers to attendance at school, ranging from anxiety, neurodivergence, mental health difficulties, through to bullying. Suzy Rowland's "I Can't Go To School!" a book for children with an accompanying guide for adults, contains a variety of accessible exercises and activities, alongside a range of friendly and reassuring illustrations, to spark conversation between children and the adults around them. Although some pupils may wish to read the book by themselves; ideally, they will be working through it with a parent carer or supported by a member of the school's pastoral team.

I Can't Go To School and it's associated Companion Parent & Teacher Guide, skilfully introduces topics that children of a variety of ages might find difficult to talk about, relating to their school experiences, issues with friends or their inner world. Removing your child from full-time education isn't an option for some parents. For others, it's the only option. This book acknowledges different situations and helps parents and schools to work through a number of options on this sensitive issue. Unfortunately, some schools are inflexible about addressing the barriers to regular attendance, thankfully, others are more forward-looking. Whichever scenario you find yourself in, you are sure to find the content in the Companion Guides & The Children's Workbook, insightful and positive.

An interactive workbook for young teens who are absent from school (for a variety of reasons) to be used individually, as a direct communication aid for young people and their families, or as a companion guide to use with a therapist.

Reviews
A wonderful, exceptionally useful book which will I am sure, help thousands of families -- Professor Peter Fonagy OBE, Chief Executive of the Anna Freud National Centre for Children & Families
Such an important book! Too many children and young people (neurodivergent and neurotypical) are struggling to manage uncertainty in school. This very gentle book has lots of practical ideas that will be useful to parents, teachers, SENDCO's, as well as children and young people. Its focus on better communication couldn't be more timely. -- Clare Ward, specialist speech and language therapist, SEND consultant at Special Networks and co-author of The Anxiety Workbook for Supporting Teens Who Learn Differently
If you really want to understand young people, ask them, never assume! This amazing workbook does just that, gives them a voice so adults can understand. Thoroughly researched, friendly, humorous, this engaging workbook provides a creative support tool for kids and young people...easy to understand, informative, empathic. The exercises not only encourage the young person back into school, they help them build emotional literacy for life! I will definitely be recommending this to schools, for staff and support workers. -- Angela Barrows, psychotherapist working with children & young people and specialist working in Alternative Provision (AP) schools

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
