Description

This core textbook, edited by five leading scholars of the subject, provides a comprehensive overview of the key topics, debates and themes in this increasingly important field. Balancing research-led theory with industry best-practice to provide students with a definitive overview of HRD, the book draws on the international experience of its authors to tackle topics as diverse as leadership and managing development, change and diversity, workplace learning, and graduate employability. The book's approachable yet thorough writing style and lively presentation helps students to understand the topic from a critical perspective while also demonstrating how HRD plays out in reality.

This is an essential textbook for undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA students of Human Resource Development on HRD or Business and Management degree programmes.

New to this Edition:
- New contributors and revised content, including additional coverage of careers, career management and employability
- More international coverage, especially of the EU
- Inclusion of topical subjects including employee engagement, skills shortage and business partnering
- Improved student-friendly pedagogy and updated figures and diagrams to appeal to different learning styles
- Thoroughly updated references and web links

"This is an excellent, very useable, undergraduate core text book by key players in the field. It's of great practical use in the classroom, too, and not just for student reading and support outside of classes. The well-referenced and up to date content is supported by good, short reflective activities and short cases that are really good for break-out discussion exercises." - Sheena Bell, Senior University Teacher, Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, UK "An excellent textbook with comprehensive coverage of key topics and debates in HRD. It builds on the first edition with revised content and new contributors, whilst continuing to be accessible and rigorous. A lively and engaging presentation, with case studies and examples to illuminate the relationship between theory, research and practice." - Claire Valentin, HRD Programme Leader, University of Edinburgh, UK Praise for the first edition: "Intellectually rigorous, accessible and comprehensive - it ticks all the boxes for an excellent textbook. The book provides a critical introduction to the field of HRD, providing a stimulating review of contemporary debates in the field, and a wealth of references. The activities, review questions and examples make it a useful teaching resource." - Clare Valentin, HRD Programme Director, The University of Edinburgh, UK. "This is a great resource for lecturers and students alike. It is engagingly written by academics who are in touch with practice and who recognise the need to give undergraduates and professional students both a language and understanding of the strategic aspects of HRD and the ability to deal with the nuance and ambiguity which HRD entails." - Lisa Anderson, Lecturer in Management Education, University of Liverpool Management School, UK "A comprehensive and authoritative overview of current topics, debates, and trends in human resource development... A well written textbook that should appeal to HRD practitioners and students alike." - Rob F. Poell, Professor of HRD, Tilburg University, Netherlands "This excellent book provides a critical exploration of the key themes in the field of Human Resource Development in a challenging yet pragmatic way, and will have wide appeal." - Susan Kirk, Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management, Nottingham Trent University, UK "Engaging, topical, full of practical illustrations and far reaching in scope: this book is an excellent new resource for undergraduate teaching and professional students alike." - Dr Clare Rigg, School of Business and Social Sciences, Institute of Technology Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland "The book is a very important contribution to the field of HRD. It signals a number of useful trajectories along which HRD may develop in the future. The book is a model of conceptual clarity and it achieves a fine balance between description and analysis. A fine achievement indeed." - Thomas N. Garavan, Journal of European Industrial Training

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
