Description

This thoroughly revised second edition provides an updated guide to reflexivity and reflexive practice, explaining its relevance to research in management, organisation studies and the social sciences. This new edition incorporates crucial analysis, case studies and Paul Hibbert's personal experience to explain how reflexive practice encompasses bodily, emotional, thoughtful and relational insights.

Drawing on a range of doctoral and collaborative case studies, Hibbert demonstrates how reflexive practice is central to authentic and resonant research. Each updated chapter presents opportunities for personal learning, growth and development in research processes, including dialogue points to encourage the reader to form their own opinions. Its all-new chapter connects insights on diversity with reflexive practice, outlining how a wide range of perspectives can help inform, shape and situate research. The book also explores avenues for future study and concludes that reflexive practice is more than a research skill: it is central to a scholarly way of life.

This book is a crucial resource for scholars and students of social sciences and business and management, particularly those interested in the latest developments in qualitative and interpretive research.

Reviews
'At a time when opinions are increasingly treated as facts, and facts are dismissed as fake, the need for reflexivity is greater than ever. However, it is a difficult concept to communicate, not only to undergraduate students, but also to postgraduates and even experienced researchers. Hibbert changes this by outlining key themes, forms, practices, and thinkers that inform reflexivity, while demonstrating how these ideas can be applied to the practical challenges that arise at different stages of diverse research projects. Central to this approach is the development of reflexive awareness of ourselves, both as researchers and as human beings.' -- John Cullen, Maynooth University School of Business, Ireland
'Right from the first page, Paul Hibbert immerses readers in an approach to research methods where reflexivity and reflexive practices are brought to life through candid reflections. This second edition is a "must-read" that further advances the exceptional value for both students and experienced researchers!' -- Trish Reay, University of Alberta, Canada
'Hibbert positions researcher reflexivity as a crucial component of interpretive research from the ideation of a project via positioning and execution through to the derived conclusions. Providing practical examples full of sensitivity, vulnerability, and wit, Hibbert demonstrates that reflexivity constitutes a central research practice that makes our research intentional, meaningful, and motivating. This book is an excellent complementary source for research methods training by going beyond the standardized procedural steps of employing methods towards a critical examination of researcher stance, interpretation, contextualization, and relevance. It provides an exciting look behind the curtain of how researchers do interpretive work.' -- Tine Koehler, University of Melbourne, Australia
'Hibbert's essential, updated book again demonstrates how reflexive research is simultaneously deeply embodied and intellectually rigorous. With his deep dive into diversity of lived experiences, he enlarges truly thoughtful research practices, helping readers craft radically inclusive research processes. Accessible and practical, this second edition is the go-to reflexive research guide.' -- Kathy Lund Dean, Gustavus Adolphus College, USA
Acclaim for first edition: -- '... An absolute must-read for all academics, students and practitioners interested in reflexivity.'- Martyna Sliwa, Durham University, UK
'Paul Hibbert's book on How to be a Reflexive Researcher grabbed me from the first page and felt deeply rewarding throughout .... The book feels erudite, easy to read and fresh at the same time. Prepare to be inspired.' -- Arne Carlsen, BI Norwegian Business School, Norway
'Whether one is just beginning their doctoral program or has decades of experience with interpretive scholarship, this work can help the reader learn and grow as a researcher and in cultivating a "scholarly way of life."' -- Danna Greenberg, Babson College, US
'I wish I had read this book as a new PhD student and researcher ... It is brilliant in vividly illustrating reflexivity as a personal project, reflexive practice and the messiness of research. A must read for new and experienced researchers.' -- Sharon Mavin, Newcastle University, UK
'An outstanding achievement .... Delightfully, he demonstrates how to be a reflexive researcher through the act of writing the book. An indispensable resource for reflexive researchers at any stage of their career.' -- Helen Sullivan, Australian National University

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
