Description

This handbook describes in detail different contemporary approaches to group work with children and adolescents. Further, this volume illustrates the application of these models to work with the youth of today, whether victims of trauma, adolescents struggling with LGBT issues, or youth with varying common diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorders, depression, and anxiety. It offers chapters presenting a variety of clinical approaches written by experts in these approaches, from classic (play therapy and dialectical behavior therapy) to cutting-edge (attachment-based intervention, mindfulness, and sensorimotor psychotherapy). Because of its broad scope, the book is suitable for a wide audience, from students to first-time group leaders to seasoned practitioners.

Reviews

"Group therapy for children and young people is the modality with the greatest-as yet not fully exploited-potential. The influence of peers on the developing child, for better or worse, is immense. This excellent book can ensure that the power of social influence is harnessed for the best motives. A remarkable collection of the most creative minds in this area comprehensively covering an exciting clinical field." -Peter Fonagy, Freud Memorial professor of psychoanalysis, UCL; Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, London, UK.

"The breadth and depth of this superb handbook is staggering. Quite often, a reference guide covers much ground but lacks texture. Not so with Handbook of Child and Adolescent Group Therapy. Haen and Aronson have assembled a treasure trove of classical and modern thinking for group building and addressing contemporary issues that young people face. Plentiful and vivid illustrations bring practice to life for readers. I highly recommend this book for classroom and field." -Andrew Malekoff, MSW, executive director and CEO of North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center; editor-in-chief, Social Work with Groups, a journal of community and clinical practice

"In 40 chapters and five major sections this book contains everything anybody would want to know about group work!! Its very comprehensive coverage of both novel and traditional approaches to group work with children and adolescents includes both theory and detailed clinical examples of how group work can effectively reduce symptoms and foster positive growth in young people. It is a major contribution to the literature!"-Nancy Boyd Webb, DSW, LICSW, RPT-S, university distinguished professor of Social Work Emerita, Fordham University

"Haen and Aronson have done an outstanding job of providing clinicians with a treasure trove of specialty groups for challenging child and adolescent treatment populations in one volume. An added bonus of this timely resource book is that all of the contributors are presenting skill-based groups that can be implemented in any practice setting. Haen and Aronson offerus the antidote for clinicians being mandated to have bigger caseloads and see clients for shorter periods of time-run shortterm specialty groups to best meet the needs of today's children and adolescents! Handbook of Child and Adolescent Group Therapy: A Practitioner's Reference should be on every therapist's bookshelf." -Matthew D. Selekman, MSW, LCSW, director, Partners for Collaborative Solutions

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
