Description

A book about cannabis for parents to inform, educate and support.

"This is an excellent book full of useful advice about cannabis, psychosis and how to navigate the care systems "; Sir Robin Murray, FRS; Professor of Psychiatric Research, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience; "Gone To Pot presents a personal, scientific and policy perspective in a very balanced way. It provides invaluable information for individuals and families experiencing psychosis associated with cannabis use, and the story you tell of your son's and your family's experience is very compelling"; David Kingdon Emeritus Professor of Mental Health Care Delivery; "Gone to Pot" is a very powerful and important book. Both a poignant personal story of one father's fight for the mind of his son and a powerful indictment of those who continue to downplay the toxic links between cannabis and psychosis. It is a much needed, clearly written update on the drug and its medical and legal status worldwide while encouraging families with expert practical information and advice"; Marjorie Wallace CBE, Hon Fellow RCPsyc, Founder and CEO SANE; "Motivated by his experiences as a father and informed by his distinguished career in mental health, Terry Hammond's book is a must-read for parents and teenagers alike. It also poses important questions for decision-makers. If we are to decriminalise cannabis - what should that law look like? "Gone to Pot" presents the evidence on the links between cannabis and mental health in a thoughtful and engaging way. This is not a lecture on the dangers of cannabis, but an informed overview of the evidence combined with pragmatic advice on how best to support children and young adults. It will be a helpful resource for many people"; Mark Winstanley, CEO at Rethink Mental Illness, Trustee of Mental Health UK; This book could save lives." Laura Johnson; Mother, carer and campaigner "; The UK stands on the edge of a mental health abyss threatening to swallow a generation of young people. Gone to pot an essential read"; Former teacher from the Midlands.

About the Author
Terry Hammond is an award-winning mental health worker, campaigner, and writer. During his 35-year career, he helped to pioneer many community mental health projects for which he received national recognition. He has appeared in numerous TV programs and has spoken at national and international conferences. His campaign in the 90s to expose the plight of people with schizophrenia being discharged from hospitals into appalling housing conditions was picked up by the award-winning journalist Marjorie Wallace, and helped shaped the Government's approach to Community Care; When his 19-year-old son developed cannabis-induced psychosis, he decided to turn his energy into finding out why such an innocuous-looking plant could do so much damage to his son's mental health. What he found shocked him, and he felt impassioned to share his professional and personal experience on cannabis, which led to the writing of Gone To Pot.

Reviews
Gone To Pot is a unique handbook written for families to help them understand and deal with the increasing threat the new, more potent strains of cannabis pose to the mental health of schoolchildren and young people generally. Studies reveal that cannabis use is becoming more popular amongst school children than tobacco; Meticulously researched, the book provides a step-by-step guide on how parents can approach the subject of dangerous substances to preteens and teenagers. It also offers expert advice to parents wrestling with a young person using cannabis or, worse, who has succumbed to cannabis-induced mental health issues; The book explores the evidence to show the paradox between its known healing and its harmful properties. It also offers an informed debate for policymakers and politicians on whether cannabis should be legalised; Gone To Pot does not set out to demonise cannabis or the 2.6 million UK users but provides a well-informed, balanced understanding of this highly complex plant.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
