Reviews
Global Communication, A Multicultural Perspective, Third Edition is a welcome and a much needed contribution. Filled with forward thinking and well-designed essays from experts in the field, the book expands our understanding of the complexity and the heterogeneity that characterizes global communication. This book is an essential read for all those interested in the cultural, social, political, legal, economic and digital aspects of global communication and media. -- Banu Akdenizli, Associate Professor of Communication at Northwestern University, Qatar
We currently confront a global communications order being reorganised by the intersection of shifting patterns of economic power, political mobilisation, and the onwards march of digital technologies. This latest edition of Yahya Kamalipour's established anthology draws on a formidable array of global expertise and experience to provide a comprehensive multi-cultural guide to the range and complexity of present developments and approaches. It traces their histories and details the challenges and opportunities they present for the creation of a global order based on equity, social justice and solidarity. Anyone interested in understanding our present condition and shaping our common future needs to engage with the evidence, perspectives, and argument it presents. -- Graham Murdock, Professor of Culture and Economy at Loughborough University
A must read for students, academics and practitioners to get comprehensive contemporary insights on global communication. The editor is to be congratulated for this important and refreshing book. -- Zulhamri Bin Abdullah, Universiti Putra Malaysia
Global Communication, A Multicultural Perspective, Third Edition brings us a fresh and much needed assemblage of opinions and insights on issues related to global communication from diverse and accomplished communication experts. Analyzing the development of global communication, and discussing the political, economic, cultural, technological and the regulatory and legal aspects of international communication and media, the contributors share a critical and contemporary overview of the field. A must read for students of media both in the US and internationally and an excellent resource for instructors packed with information that helps develop our understanding of global communication and its complex context. -- Naila Nabil Hamdy, Associate Professor of Journalism, The American University in Cairo
I read the first edition of Global Communication when I was reporting the nuclear-crisis of Korea in Pyongyang in the summer of 2003. In a quiet Soviet-style hotel near the state-run newspaper Rodong SinmunI, I finished my reading of the Global Communication and decided to publish the Chinese translation for my students at Tsinghua University. Over the 16 years since the Chinese edition was printed, the textbook has always been useful for educators, journalists and students in their thinking of the unfair and unjust world. The new edition is quite comprehensive and deals with contemporary global issues. -- Li Xiguang, Professor of the School of Journalism and Communication, Tsinghua University
International communication as a field of study has radically changed over the past 25 years. The major issues are the same, but digital technology and globalization has raised other important issues, while some previously important issues are no longer relevant. This third edition of Global Communication: A Multicultural Perspective does a great job of keeping scholars and students up to date on important issues in the field of global communication. It answers many questions, but also raises other important questions about the intersection of communication, technology, globalization and culture. -- Thimios Zaharopoulos, Provost, Deree-The American College of Greece
The Third Edition of Global Communication: A Multicultural Perspective provides a broad framework on a wide range of topics at a time when the global communication society has emerged as a powerful force. Scholars around the world share their doctrines and experiences on a number of practically oriented spheres such as cultural diversity, communication theories, transnational media, regional politics, new media, and other contemporary issues while paying special attention to the development of communication and its future prospects. -- Nadezhda Greydina, Director of Research Institute of Ethnolinguistics and Professor of Communication Studies, Pyatigorsk State University, Russia
The book fittingly sums up the current practices and future trends in global communication to offer relevant commentaries on the contemporary debates in this growing field of study. Enriched through his decades of a voyage through global mediascapes and his deep insights into this fascinating scholarship, Prof. Yahya's multidisciplinary approach systematically engages with the dynamic deliberations in this book. A must for the students of humanities, arts and social sciences, the book which comprises of contributions from the authors from Canada, Croatia, Holland, India, Germany, Sweden, Turkey, and the United States, develops an exceptional discourse to connect with and to evaluate global communications on a multicultural and multi-perspective yardstick. -- Fazal M. Malik, Dean of Humanities, Arts and Applied Sciences, Dubai International Academic City
The third edition of Global Communication: A Multicultural Perspective is a significant contribution to rendering accessible and contextual the decades of knowledge production on this critical area of communication. The chapters are written by some of the most respected scholars in this field whose work has left an indelible mark on the discipline. It is also a testament to the prevailing debates and how they inform research historically, in the present, and for years to come. This book is recommended reading for anyone with a genuine interest in rendering the study of communication global. -- Adel Iskander, Assistant Professor of Global Communication, Simon Fraser University, Canada
This updated edition of Global Communication: A Multicultural Perspective offers much-needed international insights on digital and identity-related aspects of communication. The essays are thought-provoking, interdisciplinary, and help to refocus the study of communication beyond the bounds of single cultures, nations, or methodologies. In the current era of rising xenophobia, nationalism, and populism, this collection is timely and significant. -- Roy Schwartzman, Professor of Communication Studies, University of North Carolina at Greensboro
Right-wing populism, Islamism and other signs of re-tribalization of human society are proof of the fact that globalization of media and communication is not a linear process. Growing interconnectedness does not automatically translate into an ideal type global public sphere or even new forms of digital cosmpolitanism. Global Communication by Yahya Kamalipour and his team of authors is a welcome contribution to what some authors consider the "third wave" of the globalization debate, which went through more affirmative and revisionist stages and is now ready for a realist reassessment of the phenomenon. -- Kai Hafez, Professor of International and Comparative Media and Communication Studies, University of Erfurt, Germany
There's a reason why this book is in its third edition. It offers authoritative insights into global communication in a digital media environment whose changes are constant. Thus the need for this foundational perspective from experts. -- Nancy Snow, Pax Mundi ("Distinguished") Professor of Public Diplomacy, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies
Professor Yahya R. Kamalipour is a well-known and respected promoter and advocate of global communication research. His next book brings updated knowledge on the directions of global communication development in a culturally diverse world, where technological and political changes make media communication tools more accessible. The growing role of social media causes rapidly changing and difficult to grasp social effects. Global Communication: A Multicultural Perspective, Third Edition provides a competent overview of the current state of research on this subject and at the same time contains a recommendable expert reflection on trends in changes in global communication. -- Krzysztof Gurba, Pedagogical University of Krakow, Poland
Understanding the myriad causes and consequences of the 21st Century information environment increasingly requires a global approach. The third edition of Global Communication: A Multicultural Perspective provides just such an approach. With chapters written by leading experts from across the globe, the volume is comprehensive in the historical, economic, political, social, and cultural issues it addresses; varied in the regional lenses through which these issues are contextualized; and thoughtful about both the positive and negative implications of our increasingly networked world. Well organized and written, Global Communication would be an excellent text for courses aimed at advanced undergraduate or early career graduate students. -- Michael X. Delli Carpini, Dean, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
