Description

This book critically examines the state of declining labour force participation and the rise of unpaid work for women in the Global South. By drawing on policy practices and recent data, it goes beyond the traditional realm of productive labour markets and questions of employment. It addresses key themes such as the history of women's paid and unpaid work; macroeconomic policies for women in India; current trends in female employment; economic empowerment in the tribal areas; power of public services and infrastructure; unfair burden of care work; climate change and gendered migration; vulnerability of girl children to labour exploitation; and implicit biases in women's unpaid work. It explores a range of factors affecting women's paid and unpaid work in India, including gender norms in defining labuor market dynamics, the relationship between women's work and their right to resources, and women's identities, agency, voices and lived realities. Building on feminist theoretical frameworks and empirical analyses based on microstudies, the volume offers fresh perspectives on the paradox of women's work as well as on future research and policy agenda in the field. A timely intervention, this multidisciplinary book will be useful to scholars and researchers of political economy, labour studies, women's studies, gender studies, public policy, economics, development studies, sociology, South Asian studies, and Global South studies. It will also interest planners, policymakers, gender advocates, civil society organizations, human rights bodies and international organizations working towards ensuring economic empowerment and equality and rights.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
