The tranquil town of Gainsborough hides an exciting past. At the heart of the early history of England, it acted first as a capital of King Alfred's Mercia, and then as a stronghold of Viking conquerors Sweyn Forkbeard and Canute. It became the centre of turbulence once again as a Royalist garrison during the Civil War. The town's religious heritage is equally unconventional. About the Author
Sally Outram is a Freelance photographer for a local newspaper, the Retford Times. It enables her to really get into the heart of communities and record through her images, what will become part of our historical archives & heritage. Born and raised in Nottinghamshire, she soon developed a passion for writing and photography, not only in her home county but also in the neighbouring counties of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Yorkshire.
