Reviews
Paul Drayton has written [an] affirmative melody for the same words, sung unison, with organ or piano accompaniment, either by choir or by choir and congregation. It appears three times and between each the choir, now in four parts, sings two other verses from Binyon's For the fallen. Where circumstances allow congregational rehearsal, it would be an effective, corporate Act of Remembrance. * Stephen Patterson www.rscm.com, June 18 *
Many choir directors will already be thinking about next November, since this year will be the centenary of the end of the first world war. Paul Drayton's For Remembrance, . . . featuring the well-known poem by Binyon that includes the words 'They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old', perfectly captures the mood of the text . . . the congregation/audience can also join in if they have a little practice first: the composer indicates where in the score this might happen. Drayton, ever the practical musician, makes sure that his melody stays within the range of the average member of the congregation . . . the craftsmanship throughout this eight-page octavo is first-rate. I hope the piece becomes a Remembrance Sunday staple well beyond the special considerations of 2018. * Jermemy Jackman, Choir & Organ March 2018 *
