Description

`A feminist is a woman who does not allow anyone to think in her place.' Michele Le Doeuff Spanning nearly two decades (1980-1996), the six sections of this reader investigate the debates which have most characterized feminist theory to date. Including articles such as `Pornography and Fantasy', `The Body and Cinema', `Nature as Female', and `A Manifesto for Cyborgs', the extracts in Feminisms explore thoughts on sexuality as a domain of exploration, the visual representation of women, what being a feminist means, and why feminists are increasingly involved in political struggles to negotiate the context and meaning of technological development. With writing by bell hooks, Alice Jardine, and Andrea Dworkin, this multi-cultural Oxford Reader reflects the dynamic nature of feminist debates and the genuine diversity within current feminist theory.

About the Author
Judith Squires teaches Politics at the University of Bristol. Sandra Kemp is Quintin Hogg Research Fellow in English at the University of Westminster.

Reviews
a very impressive collection ... a remarkably thorough cross-section of texts ... essays that are readable and exciting ... The section on Technologies is especially original, provocative, and forward looking. * Elaine Showalter, Princeton University *
rich and comprehensive collection of diverse and challenging essays * Lynne Segal, Middlesex University *
a comprehensive, ambitious and brilliantly thought-out collection ... This reader is the ideal companion for anyone who is engaged in research or reflection on contemporary feminism * Rosi Braidotti, Utrecht University *
a wonderfully diverse sampling of the richness that is feminisms ... a valuable text for classes and an equally valuable reference tool * Jean F. O'Barr, Duke University *
exceptionally clear and useful thematic introductions that highlight debates and diversity * Barbara D. Miller, George Washington University *
One could not have a more comprehensive guide to western feminist theory of the last sixteen years than Feminisms provides. Their introductions to the materials convey the excitement that this diversity brings. * Jennifer Hornsby, Birkbeck College, London *
Feminisms is that ideal text and reference book ... Paced with substantive (and in some cases highly original) introductions throughout ... while it might be less than academic to label Feminisms "a great read", it is. * Linda Wagner-Martin, University of North Carolina *
Innovative, inclusive, interesting. * Shulamit Reinharz, Brandeis University *
an anthology which will no doubt influence scholarship for years to come * Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Columbia University *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
