In contemporary western societies, the fat body has become a focus of stigmatizing discourses and practices aimed at disciplining, regulating and containing it. Deborah Lupton is Centenary Research Professor in the Faculty of Arts & Design, University of Canberra. She is an internationally renowned sociologist and the author/co-author of fifteen other books, the latest of which are Digital Health: Critical and Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives, The Quantified Self: A Sociology of Self-Tracking and Digital Sociology.
