About the Author
, Clive - Having obtained my PhD in plant sciences from Wye College I initially spent some years as a research fellow at the University of Essex, working on the primary reactions of photosynthesis and their relation to crop productivity. I moved to Writtle College to take up a Senior Lecturer and Research Manager role in 1988. For over 20 years I have taught crop science and research methodology to undergraduate and Masters students and supervised a number of graduate students through their PhD studies. Personal research interests have included the tolerance mechanisms to mineral deficiencies and salinity and the physiological aspects of tropical intercropping systems. An interest in developing effective methods for teaching statistics to life science students developed as a consequence of being obliged to take on the teaching of statistics to cover a colleague on sabbatical leave that subsequently became a permanent departure. This book arises, therefore, from the experiences of trying to make statistics digestible to generations of students who, rather like me over 30 years ago, quickly put up the shutters on the mention of the word "statistics".
